00 Decision room

Find the publishing path that fits.

Answer up to three plain questions and receive one recommended way to publish your small site. Each answer decides the next question, so you only see what matters to you.

Your answers stay on this page. Nothing you choose is saved, sent or shared.

01 The room

Begin with the first question

Your answers so far

No answers yet. Your choices appear here, in order.

Plate 04. The decision room. It asks at most three questions, and each answer shows only the questions that follow from it. Your answers are listed in the order you gave them.

    02 Without scripts

The same room, written as text

Scripts are switched off, so this page shows the decision tree as text. Start at the first question and follow the answer that describes you.

    1. Do visitors need to sign in, save anything, or see live information?
      • No, the site only shows content. Next question: how often does the content change?
        • Rarely, a few times a year: plain files.
        • Often, with new pages or posts. Next question: who makes the changes?
          • Only me, and I am comfortable with text files: static generator.
          • Several people, who would rather use a browser: browser-based editor.
      • Yes, they sign in or save things. Next question: do you want to run a server yourself?
        • Yes, I accept that upkeep for the control it gives: small server with a database.
        • No, I would rather not run anything: managed backend.
      • I am not sure yet. Next question: how many people will edit the site?
        • Just me: plain files, and you can move to another path later.
        • A few people: browser-based editor.

Each path has a checklist in the field guide.

    03 Limits

What this room can and cannot tell you

The room gives a general fit based on a few answers. It knows nothing about your budget, nothing about the skills you have beyond what you chose to say, and nothing about the rules that apply to your particular content.

Treat the recommendation as a starting point for reading, not a verdict. The field guide explains each path in full, and the contact page is there if your situation does not fit any of them.
